Unreal and Houdini Lighting Reel

Park Timelapse

Lighting in Unreal Engine 5

In Fall of 2023, I worked as a teaching assistant for my school's CG Lighting Class, and one of the projects we did was an exterior in Unreal. I lit a City Park from Unreal Market Place, animated the lights to the speed of the timelapse I wanted, adjusted the key frames to span over 3 hours, and then rendered every 30th second

Lighting in Unreal Engine 5, model and layout by Sherry Liang

In Winter Semester of 2024, my friend Sherry Liang was working on a project in Maya and Houdini where she was recreating a piece by Lei Min in 3D. I suggested that we bring her scene into Unreal to utilize its great foliage tools and fast rendering. We made the terrain with Quixel Megascans and used foliage from City Park from Unreal Market Place. I later lit the scene and we were both amazed by the magic and speed of Unreal Engine.

Choo Choo: Personal Project

Choo Choo is a game about uncovering the mystery of a tree, a ghost, and toy trains. You play as a tree who is tasked with collecting toy train parts to return to the ghost of the house.

This is a game made as a final for my Real Time Techniques Class I took in Fall 2022. The class consisted of contributing to a class kit bash (my class chose a haunted house theme), making a layout, and then making a game level or cinematic in Unreal Engine 5.

I am responsible for the characters, layout/level design, programming, lighting, and cinematics.

When building the layout for the game, I used Unreal's sublevels to help keep things organized.

I started white boxing with primitives, then had a sublevel for architecture, props, and lighting.
